On July 1, 2024, first-year students from the Department of Regional Systems Studies, Faculty of Economics, Kanazawa Seiryo University visited a company as part of their liberal arts education class "Introduction to Careers." They split into two groups and visited ICOMA Mechanical Co., Ltd. and Hokusho Co., Ltd. in Hakusan City.
At ICOMA Mechanical Co., Ltd., a company that produces unique products by combining press processing and sheet metal processing technologies, the tour saw the latest processing technologies and innovations to improve efficiency. The factory was designed with an emphasis on ease of working, with automated production lines installed and many female staff members working there. At Hokusho Co., Ltd., a leading manufacturer of vertical conveyor systems with a 40% domestic market share, the tour received a detailed explanation of the company's efforts to protect the environment and contribute to society, and specific measures to fulfill its social responsibilities as a company, such as using sustainable resources and improving energy efficiency, were introduced.
Through these company tours, the students learned about actual corporate activities and working environments, and experienced firsthand the unique initiatives of each company, such as customized customer service, initiatives toward the SDGs, and support measures for female employees. In addition, by listening directly to the CEOs through question and answer sessions, they were able to gain a deeper understanding of the company's vision and strategy.
Students who participated shared their thoughts such as, "Until now, I felt like I could only be proud to work for a large company or a company that was close to my vision for the future, but knowing that my work is helping society makes me feel like I can work with pride," and "I was able to gain information and have many experiences that I would not have been able to have on my own, and I learned a lot of interesting and useful things. I want to research, participate, gain lots of experience, and continue to build on the skills I gain from them." It appears that the knowledge and experiences gained in the classes broadened the students' horizons.
