On Thursday, September 2024, 9, the Toyo Gakuen University Faculty of Human Sciences "Human Society Seminar" (Associate Professor Fumitaka Tanemura) will hold its first "Children's Clothing Adoption Fair" as an industry-government-academia collaboration activity with Bunkyo Ward and Zendra Co., Ltd., which edits and publishes a newspaper for the cleaning industry. The event will be held on the first floor of Building 5 on the Hongo Campus, and participation is free.
This adoption event has been held by Zendra Co., Ltd. and Bunkyo Ward in the past, and was selected as a model demonstration project by the Ministry of the Environment in 2024. It is also part of the "2R" activity, which stands for Reduce and Reuse, promoted by Bunkyo Ward, and is part of child-rearing support. This time, the "Children's Clothing Adoption Event" held on a university campus as a collaboration between industry, government, and academia is a rare attempt in the country.
The Faculty of Human Sciences' intensive course "Human Society Seminar" aims to have students actually interact with local people, deepen their understanding of the issues facing the community and society, and think about ways they can contribute. For this adoption event, students themselves will plan and carry out the entire event, from collecting to donating clothes, as a way to learn about the SDGs. Students will be in charge of planning and running the day, and will donate children's clothes that have outgrown them to those in need free of charge, as well as collect children's clothes free of charge.
More than 600 pieces of children's clothing were collected by Zendra Co., Ltd. for the adoption event. In the preparatory study held in August, a lecture was given by Ryo Kato, head of the Recycling Promotion Section of the Recycling and Cleaning Division of the Resources and Environment Department of Bunkyo Ward, where students learned about Bunkyo Ward's unique efforts regarding waste disposal and recycling, and also sorted the children's clothing for the adoption event.
