Kobe University will establish a new Department of Medical Innovation Engineering within its Faculty of Medicine in April 2025. Through integrated education with the Department of Medical Innovation Engineering of the Graduate School of Medicine, which was established in April 4, the department aims to nurture talent with basic knowledge of both medicine and engineering who will play an active role in a wide range of fields related to health and medicine and who will lead the development of new medical devices. In addition, the department is considering utilizing its experience and knowledge gained from jointly developing Japan's first surgical robot, "Hinotori," with the industry, to develop cutting-edge medical devices originating from Kobe through collaboration between industry, government, and academia.

The Department of Medical Innovation Engineering in the Faculty of Medicine offers a curriculum that cultivates creativity and teaches the basics of medicine, engineering, and medical equipment to develop medical equipment for social implementation (commercialization). The faculty consists of experts in medical equipment development in three fields: medical equipment systems, internal medical equipment, and precision diagnostic medical equipment, allowing students to learn from a variety of angles. The campus is the same as the Faculty of Medicine, Kusunoki Campus (Chuo-ku, Kobe), and the enrollment limit is 3 students.

Applications are accepted only for the early general selection schedule (Common University Entrance Examination + Individual Academic Ability Test). The total points for each of the two selection methods, [Comprehensive] and [Mathematics and Science], are calculated, and the higher total point is used for selection. The [Comprehensive] method is a selection method that seeks out the overall ability required for the medical field, while the [Mathematics and Science] method is a selection method that emphasizes the mathematics and science required for engineering. Interviews are conducted in the same way as for the medical school to determine the aptitude for developing medical equipment and becoming a medical professional.

The open campus was held on August 2024, 8, but videos of explanations of new departments, curriculum explanations, mock lectures, and other events held on that day have been uploaded to the website and can still be viewed now.
