The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has announced a budget request to select and subsidize 2024 new schools in addition to continuing schools for the High School Digital Transformation Acceleration Promotion Project (DX High School), which began in 2025.

The High School Digital Transformation Acceleration Promotion Project (DX High School) was launched in FY2024 as a response to the need to drastically strengthen human resource development to support growth fields such as digital at the high school level in order to maximize the effects of the policy, as efforts to shift faculties to digital and science and mathematics at the university level progress. In the first year, 1010 high schools were selected, and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology will support the costs of creating the necessary environment.

The proposed budget for fiscal 2025 calls for 1010 continuing schools to receive 750 million yen, and 250 newly selected schools to receive 1000 million yen. In addition to the mandatory requirements, schools that focus on implementing initiatives of each type will be designated as "priority types," and the subsidy cap for 110 schools will be increased by 200 million yen. The "semiconductor priority category" is included in these 110 schools.

High schools selected as DX High Schools will implement a curriculum that emphasizes information and mathematics education, and will strengthen the project content of exploratory, interdisciplinary, and practical learning using ICT. They will also be required to actively work on collaboration with schools selected for the "University and College of Technology Function Strengthening Support Project," and universities will be required to provide training for high school teachers by faculty members and doctoral students, provide on-site classes, and promote the taking of information-related subjects (including content equivalent to Information II) by high school students. In addition, a goal has been set to increase the rate of advancement to science faculties at universities from 2028% to 19.5% by 28.9.
