Tokyo Institute of Technology, Ochanomizu University, and Nara Women's University are jointly hosting the "Future Door Camp" and "Future Door Visit" programs, which aim to discover and develop female science and engineering students who will lead the future of Japan. Participants for the Future Door Camp will be selected in September and the event will be held in December, while information regarding the Future Door Visit event will be announced after October.
The "Future Door Camp" will select 1 talented female high school students from all over Japan, and hold a three-day joint training camp starting on December 2, 50. The camp will be held at the National Olympics Memorial Youth Center in Shibuya, Tokyo. Programs are planned for the camp, including manufacturing training, a social problem-solving contest, physical chemistry experiments, advanced science and engineering, and career paths for women in science. In order to discover talented people not only from the vicinity of the three universities but also from all over the country, accommodation and meals at the venue for participating female students will be free, and transportation costs for participation will be subsidized by up to 2024 yen. Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, September 12th via the school principal.
The "Door of the Future Visit" is open to all interested female high school students and provides opportunities for the future, such as tours of research laboratories at various universities. Online tools will also be used to conduct awareness-raising activities to encourage female high school students and those involved to choose science and engineering. Currently, in 2024, the Tokyo University of Science "One Day Tokyo University of Science Student" event will be held on Sunday, November 11th, while in 16, Nara Women's University's "Female Engineer Development Program" will be held in late March, and Ochanomizu University's "Rikejo Future Symposium" will be held in mid-April.
These programs are being implemented with the support of the Mitsubishi Mirai Foundation, and the plan is to continue operating them with the cooperation of industry even after the three-year grant period ends. The foundation aims to continue activities to encourage women to choose science and engineering fields with consistency and continuity.
