The National Center for University Entrance Examinations has decided to digitize application procedures in principle, starting with the 2026 Common University Entrance Examination. Applications and changes to registered information will be done online using a computer, tablet, smartphone, etc. The aim is to reduce the burden on high schools, which have previously collected application documents, and detailed information will be released after February 2025.
Until now, high schools have sent handwritten application forms and other necessary documents for all current students to the National Center for University Entrance Examinations in bulk to apply for university entrance exams. However, from 2026, applicants will be required to apply online to the National Center for University Entrance Examinations themselves, without going through their current school.
Applicants will create their own My Page online, and will use it to register exam subjects and make changes to their application details. Applicants will obtain their exam admission ticket from their My Page, which they will then print out and bring with them on the day of the exam.
The schedule will be set so that there are no major changes from previous years, such as the publication of exam information in mid-June and the acquisition of exam tickets in mid-December. Examination fees can be paid by credit card, convenience store, or Pay-easy. After paying the grade notification fee, students can view their grades on their personal page from April onwards.
However, if you wish to apply for special consideration for your disability, you can do so by mailing the application form from your personal page. Alternative measures will be provided for students who cannot access the Internet.
In 2021, an expert panel from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology recommended that electronic applications be introduced "as soon as possible." In response, the National Center for University Entrance Examinations has been rushing to consider the matter.
