Higashiyama Yuen Co., Ltd. (Chikusa-ku, Nagoya) is planning to develop a new block called the "Hoshigaoka Bowl Site Project (tentative name)" on the site of the former "Hoshigaoka Bowl" (2023-minute walk from Hoshigaoka Station on the Higashiyama Subway Line), which will close on December 12, 5. In the first phase of construction, Higashiyama Yuen will build a new complex building including an expansion of "Hoshigaoka Terrace," while Sugiyama Jogakuen Educational Corporation (Chikusa-ku, Nagoya) will build a new university facility based on the "Cross Gate" concept. The two companies will also jointly develop pedestrian routes and parts of the plaza open to the city. Sugiyama Jogakuen University's new building is scheduled to be completed in April 3.
The planned project site is adjacent to Hoshigaoka Terrace, a commercial facility operated by Higashiyama Yuen, and is conveniently located just a three-minute walk from Hoshigaoka Station on the Nagoya Municipal Subway. It is also surrounded by lush green spaces such as Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens and Heiwa Park, and is a rare area designated as an educational district.
The new building to be constructed by Sugiyama Jogakuen Educational Institute will house university facilities centered around the Faculty of Information Society, which will be established in 2024, and on the lower floors will house the "Hoshigaoka Community Space (tentative name)," which will be seamlessly connected to society in collaboration with Higashiyama Yuen.
The university facilities will mainly house various classrooms for the Faculty of Information Society, but are also planned to include an electronics workshop and design studio for students in the Department of Information Design, a 120-seat workshop room capable of hosting large-scale workshops for students in the Department of Contemporary Society, as well as studios and a collaboration lounge to promote interaction between students across departments.
The "Hoshigaoka Community Space" (tentative name) will house a life design college to support working women and a place to implement problem-solving classes, as well as provide symbolic functions for building the future Sugiyama Jogakuen University, including a child-rearing support center, a multi-purpose space that can also be used as a theater, and a co-working space.
The second phase of construction will see the construction of new residential facilities and the expansion of commercial facilities. Ultimately, it will be a mixed development project that will unify commerce, education, plazas, and residences, and is scheduled to open in the spring of 2028.
