Of the 11 categories, Showa Women's University ranked first among women's universities nationwide in six categories: "A university that puts effort into global education," "A university with a strong capacity for reform," "A university that helps students grow after enrollment," "A university that takes good care of students," "A university that puts effort into job placement," and "A university with strong educational capabilities."
Showa Women's University's efforts in the areas in which it won first place are as follows:
<Universities with high educational capabilities>
We provide various learning opportunities for all students, focusing on global education, project-based learning, and career education. We aim to provide education that cultivates high levels of expertise, and we teach not only specialized fields but also the skills required in society through more practical learning.
<Universities that focus on global education>
We offer all students study abroad programs at our overseas campus "Showa Boston" which opened in 1988, 55 overseas partner universities, and the neighboring state campus of Temple University, Japan (TUJ) in the U.S. We also offer a "Double Degree Program" with TUJ and five partner universities in four countries that allows students to earn two degrees (bachelor's degrees), and have already produced over 2 graduates.
<Universities with strong reform capabilities>
The Department of Health Design was established in 2010, the Faculty of Global Business in 2013, the Faculty of International Studies and the Department of Food Safety Management in 2017, the Department of Accounting and Finance in 2018, and the Faculty of Environmental Design in 2020. In order to better meet the needs of society and students, the Faculty of International Studies will be reorganized in 2025. There are plans to establish a new Faculty of Information Studies (currently under construction) in 2026.
<A university that helps students grow after enrollment>
To encourage students to take on new challenges and actively learn, the school has developed over 100 projects in collaboration with companies and local governments in its "project-based learning" program. In addition to department-specific projects that deepen the specialized knowledge learned in each department, students with different specialized knowledge share their knowledge in cross-departmental projects, developing it into new learning.
A caring university
In the educational setting, the relationship between students and teachers is close, and careful guidance is given to each student in classes and seminar activities. In addition, class advisors are assigned, and a system is in place to support the growth of students in terms of student life and career paths.
<Universities that focus on employment>
In the ranking of the actual employment rate of 2023 graduates* (surveyed by University Communications), the university ranked first among all female universities with more than 1,000 graduates. The university provides support through three pillars: 1) career education, 3) employment support program, and 370) working mentor system. In the "working mentor system," approximately XNUMX working women, including non-graduates, are registered as mentors. As role models, they provide advice on work content, working style, and career development, and support students in their career design.
* Actual employment rate = number of employees ÷ (number of graduates-number of graduate students) x 100
