On October 2024th and 10th, 26, the final selection meeting for the "High School Chemistry Grand Contest 27" sponsored by Shibaura Institute of Technology was held at the Toyosu Campus (Koto-ku, Tokyo), and Hiroo Gakuen High School's "Photocontrol of Cell Functions Using Boron Caged Technology" won the first place Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award. The school also won the Special Sponsor Company Award (Daiichi Sankyo Award).

The High School Chemistry Grand Contest supports independent "learning and research activities" by high school students and technical college students (3rd year or below) and is one of the few "chemistry-specific" high school student educational support programs hosted by universities and supported by university faculty members for their research activities.

Teams that pass the first round of selection will have the opportunity to deepen their learning by discussing each other's research with their peers, with generous support for transportation and accommodation. The top three teams will be invited to international events overseas (with support for overseas travel expenses), and the winners will have their experiences published in the book "High School Student Chemistry Declaration," among other attractive benefits.

In 2024, 99 teams (302 people) of high school students from across the country and three teams (3 people) invited from overseas who passed the first round of screening presented the results of their research, and a total of more than 11 people attended over the two days.

The final judging results are as follows. The three teams that received the Grand Award will receive support from Shibaura Institute of Technology to participate in an overseas international forum*.
