Meiji University's School of Political Science and Economics will stop accepting students for the Department of Regional Administration after the 2025 enrollment, and will establish a new Department of Policy Studies (tentative name) (currently under planning) from April 2026. As a result, the School of Political Science and Economics will have three departments: Department of Political Science, Department of Economics, and Department of Policy Studies.
Under globalization, regions both at home and abroad have diverse meanings and many possibilities, such as "regions," "cities," "countries," and "the world," but at the same time, they face various problems regarding natural, human, social, and cultural resources. In this situation, it is essential that the various actors that make up these regions, such as residents, companies, and governments and local governments, plan, propose, and implement appropriate policies according to their respective roles.
The Department of Policy Studies (tentative name) in the Faculty of Political Science and Economics will open in April 2026 with an enrollment capacity of 4 and a total capacity of 200 (currently under planning). The aim is to train problem-solving professionals who will be active in private companies and public institutions. By mobilizing interdisciplinary knowledge including political science, sociology, and economics, as well as data analysis and language skills, students will acquire theories and problem-solving abilities surrounding diverse "regions," conceive of policies to solve various issues and enrich society, and acquire the ability to plan, propose, and implement them.
Please note that the establishment plan is tentative and the details may be subject to change. The latest information on the "Policy Studies Department (tentative name)" will be posted on the Faculty of Political Science and Economics website or the general entrance examination website.
