The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has selected 2018 local small and medium-sized private universities and junior colleges such as Takasaki University of Commerce, Shikoku University Junior College, and Kagoshima Women's Junior College as the target schools for the 50 private university management strengthening intensive support project. With the aim of strengthening the management of local universities in preparation for the sharp decline in the 18-year-old population, we will continue to provide support until FY2020.
According to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, support schools are located outside the three major metropolitan areas and have a capacity of 2,000 or less. The target is to work on strengthening the management base.There were applications from 41 schools nationwide, including 85 junior colleges, and as a result of the examination, 23 schools including 50 junior colleges were selected.
The selected universities are Hakodate University, Hachinohe Gakuin University, Iwaki Meisei University, Ashikaga Junior College, Niigata Rehabilitation University, Chubu Gakuin University, Hyogo University, Tottori Junior College, Takamatsu University, Nishikyushu University, Miyazaki International University, Okinawa University, etc.
The amount of support will be allocated in a graded manner based on the evaluation results after examining the content of the management reform plan, which includes an increase in enrollment, improvement of income and expenditure, and strengthening of the organizational structure, and the status of management improvement.The selected schools will be reviewed for allocations such as reductions and suspensions according to the progress of the plan each year.
The centralized support project for strengthening management for local small and medium-sized private universities started in FY2015, and support was continued until FY2017 with an emphasis on building a system and mechanism for strengthening management. From 2018, we will support the promotion of the plan with the aim of further strengthening the management base.
