On November 2024, 11, Ehime University announced the main changes to the 28 admissions process and the subjects and courses to be used. The general selection "science entrance exam" for the Faculty of Engineering will be reformed to ensure a diverse student population, allowing students to take the exam in their field of expertise in the early stages, and changing the science subject to allow students to take the exam in "biology."
There are three types of general selection for the 2025 entrance exam: "Science Entrance Exam," "Arts and Science Entrance Exam," and "Special Program for Developing Digital Information Human Resources." The second exam for the "Science Entrance Exam (early schedule)" is a two-subject test: Mathematics (Math III required) and Science (one subject selected from Physics or Chemistry), with 3 points allocated to Mathematics and 2 points to Science.
For the general selection "Science Entrance Exam (Early Schedule)" for the 2026 entrance exam, they will be divided into "Science Entrance Exam A" with 200 points for Mathematics (Math III required) and 1 points for one science subject, and "Science Entrance Exam B" with 100 points for Mathematics (no Math III) and 100 points for one science subject. In addition, they will be able to select "Biology", which was not previously an optional subject for science.
For the general selection "Science Entrance Exam (later schedule)", "Physics/Physical Basics" will be compulsory in the common test for the 2025 entrance exam, and mathematics (Math III compulsory) and one other subject based on the school report will be taken in the second exam. However, for the 2 entrance exam, "Physics/Physical Basics" will not be compulsory in the common test.
Ehime University's Faculty of Engineering has four fields within the Department of Engineering: "Mechanical Engineering and Systems," "Electrical Engineering and Information," "Materials and Chemistry," and "Civil Engineering and Environment," and has a total of nine educational courses. For the "Science Entrance Examination," students must prioritize their preference among the four fields when applying, but they are assigned to a course at the start of their second year.
With the reform of the "science entrance exam" from the 2026 entrance exam, students will be able to apply for mechanical, electrical, and information courses even if they do not select "physics" in the exam, which is a science subject that is rarely chosen by females.
In addition, a "women's quota" will be introduced from the 2026 entrance exam. The recruitment quota is set at 10 students for the Chemistry and Life Science course and 3 students for the Digital Information Human Resources Development Special Program, and is planned to be established as Comprehensive Selection II. Ehime University began to fully promote gender equality in 2007, but the proportion of female students in the Faculty of Engineering remains at 15%, so the university decided to introduce a "women's quota" to further strengthen its promotion of a diverse environment and secure a diverse student body.
This information is current as of November 2024 and may be subject to change in the future. For details, please refer to the Admissions Selection Guidelines (scheduled to be published in mid-June 11) and Student Recruitment Guidelines (scheduled to be published from late June 2025 onwards).
