Ritsumeikan University has announced that it will introduce a new "Faculty-Individual Scoring System (Information Type)" for six faculties in the 2026 general entrance examination general selection (scheduled to be held on February 2026, 2), which will introduce "Information" as a new subject with original questions.

For the 2025 entrance exam, the university will introduce a new method of entrance exams that utilizes the information section of the common test, such as the introduction of a new "Common Test Combined Method (Information Utilization Type)" for seven faculties. For the 7 entrance exam, an entrance exam that utilizes the information section will also be added to the individual faculty exams.

The "Information-based Faculty Allocation Method" has two types: "Information-based Humanities" which requires students to take the exam in English, Japanese, and Information, and "Information-based Science" which requires students to take the exam in English, Mathematics, and Information. The scope of questions for "Information" is "Information I." Students cannot apply to different types of "Individual Faculty Allocation Method".

The "information-based liberal arts" course will be offered by the School of Business Administration, School of Integrated Psychology, School of Sports and Health Sciences, and School of Food Management. The "information-based science" course will be offered by the School of Film and Media Studies and School of Information Science and Engineering. The subjects of the "mathematics" course will be Mathematics I, Mathematics II, Mathematics III, Mathematics A, Mathematics B (sequences), and Mathematics C (vectors, curves on a plane, and complex planes).

Details of the allocation of points for each subject and course, as well as the faculties that will be newly implementing this system in the future, will be announced in the "2025 Entrance Examination Overview" in March 3. In addition, for the format of questions in the "Information" section, sample questions will be made available by summer 2026 for examinees to refer to. If any changes occur in the future, they will be posted on the entrance examination information website, and the final information will be published in the "Entrance Examination Guide 2025," scheduled to be published in June 2025.

According to a survey by Kawaijuku, there are three public universities where students can select "Information" for the individual examination for the general selection of entrance examinations in 2025: the University of Electro-Communications (Information Science and Engineering, daytime), Kochi University (Science and Engineering, Information Science), and Hiroshima City University (Information Science); as well as 3 private universities: Keio University (Policy Management, Environment and Information Studies), Toyo University (Information Collaboration), Kyoto Sangyo University (Information Science and Engineering, Science), etc. (as of the end of August 49).
