Aichi Prefecture, which plans to establish new junior high schools attached to four prefectural high schools and turn them into integrated junior and senior high schools from the 2025 academic year, announced the number of applicants for the entrance selection for the prefectural attached junior high schools on December 2024, 12. The highest application ratio was about 9 times that of the Meiwa High School Attached Junior High School (regular course).
The aim of introducing integrated junior and senior high school education is to nurture "change makers" who will take on challenges without fear of failure and bring about change in society in a society and era where it is extremely difficult to predict the future. The "Future Plan for the Reorganization of Prefectural High Schools" was formulated in December 2021, and the first four schools to introduce the inquiry-based learning-oriented system were selected in July 12.
In the first year, the number of applicants for the regular course at Meiwa High School was 80 for a capacity of 1,364 (application ratio of 17.1), the highest among the four schools. The music course at Meiwa High School, the first public junior and senior high school in the country, had 4 applicants for a capacity of 20 (36 times). The regular course at Kariya High School had 1.8 applicants for a capacity of 80 (818 times), the junior high school at Handa High School had 10.2 applicants for a capacity of 80 (395 times), and the international studies course at Tsushima High School had 4.9 applicants for a capacity of 80 (165 times).
The aptitude test for the first round of entrance selection for the four schools will be held on Saturday, January 4, 1. The aptitude test will be a combination of multiple subjects within the scope of the elementary school curriculum guidelines, and the questions will be designed to properly measure the ability to think, make judgments, and express oneself using knowledge and skills. Those who have passed the first round will be announced on January 2025, and the second round of selection will be individual interviews on Saturday, January 1, with the results announced on Friday, January 11.
It has been decided that three new schools will be established in 2026 as the second wave of schools that will introduce the inquiry-based learning-oriented approach: Toyota Nishi High School Attached Junior High School (regular course), Tokishukan High School Attached Junior High School (regular course), and Nishio High School Attached Junior High School (international inquiry course).
