A survey by Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co. found that more than half of young employees in their 20s who live away from their hometowns feel that they are "not living where they want to live." The company believes it is necessary to eliminate unwanted transfers and relocations.

The survey was conducted online in November 2024 among 11 unmarried working adults in their 20s who had graduated from a four-year university and were living away from their hometowns across the country, and the results were collated.

According to the survey, when asked "Does the place you want to live match the place you are currently living in?", 54.4% answered "No." As for the reason why they are not able to live where they want to live, 87.9% of people cited "companies or work circumstances."

In response to the question, "Do you think it's inevitable that you can't freely choose where you want to live and what kind of work you want to do as long as you work for a company?" 64.2% answered "Yes."

Based on the survey results, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance will implement personnel reforms to eliminate unwanted transfers and relocations by implementing an open recruitment system for employee transfers from April 2025. For new graduates, the company will also select employees based on their preferred prefecture as their initial post-joining position.
