Looking at the numbers by type of institution, the number of students entering national universities increased from 1,315 to 1,366, and the number of students entering public universities increased from 281 to 283, almost unchanged from the previous year. Only the number of students entering private universities increased by approximately 13,772, from 19,761 to 6,000.
In addition, the number of correspondence high school graduates, which has been rapidly increasing in recent years, is expected to increase by 2023 from 76,624 to 84,450 in the 7,826 academic year. The number of students going on to university also increased by 14,780 from 17,917 to 3,137, resulting in an increase in the current university enrollment rate from 19.3% to 21.2%, a record high.
The rate of students going on to university from full-time and part-time high schools reached a record high of 58.3%, but the number of students graduating in March 2024 was 3, a decrease of 918,850. The number of students going on to university was also down by 43,159 to 10,777.
