On November 2024, 11, the first "Japanese Language Teacher Examination" was held since Japanese language teachers (official name: Registered Japanese Language Teachers) were nationally certified, and the results of the exam were announced by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on December 17.
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, 1 people took the exam, and 7,655 passed, resulting in a pass rate of 1%. However, this number includes 1,051 successful candidates who were exempt from all exams (basic exams and applied exams) due to transitional measures. Excluding these candidates, the pass rate is 62.6%.
There are two main ways to obtain the qualification: the "examination route" and the "training institution route." The "examination route," which involves self-study starting from the basic exam, requires passing both the basic and applied exams. Of 2 test takers, only 3,681 passed, resulting in a pass rate of 322%, which was quite tough.
The other "training institution route" has four categories, excluding those who are all exempt from exams due to transitional measures, but the pass rate for those in the main category (those exempt from basic exams) was in the 1% range.
To become a nationally certified "registered Japanese language teacher (Japanese language teacher)," one must pass the Japanese language teacher exam (basic exam and applied exam) and complete practical training. By completing a Japanese language teacher training course (or course) that covers 50 mandatory educational items, one can be exempt from the basic exam and practical training.
