The Department of International Studies at Reitaku University has been certified by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as a "First-time Registered Practical Training Institution and Registered Japanese Language Teacher Training Institution for FY6." As of December 1, 2024, it is the only university in Chiba Prefecture to be so certified.

As the number of foreign residents in Japan increases, the Japanese Language Education Institution Accreditation Act came into effect on April 2024, 4, with the aim of ensuring the quality of education so that each foreign student studying Japanese can acquire the Japanese language skills they need. Accordingly, Japanese language education institutions that meet the certification standards have been certified as "accredited Japanese language education institutions" by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as having a certain level of quality guaranteed. In order to become a Japanese language teacher at an "accredited Japanese language education institution," one must be qualified as a "registered Japanese language teacher," and in order to obtain the qualification, one must pass the Japanese Language Teacher Examination Basic and Advanced Exams and undergo practical training.

Now that the Department of International Studies has been certified as a "Registered Practical Training Institution and Registered Japanese Language Teacher Training Institution," students who complete the "Japanese Language Teacher Training/Practical Training Course" (starting in 2025) at the Department of International Studies will be exempt from the basic exam mentioned above, and will be able to obtain registered Japanese language teacher qualifications simply by passing the advanced exam.

The Department of International Studies aims to cultivate Japanese language educators who can immediately contribute in the field, and provides students studying Japanese language education with numerous opportunities for proactive learning to put what they have learned in the classroom into practice in society.

In addition to on-campus activities such as researching the state of Japanese language education overseas, interacting with overseas universities through the production of videos introducing Japanese culture to overseas Japanese language learners, and Japanese language teaching practice (for second- to fourth-year students) at partner schools in Taiwan and South Korea, the school is also actively involved in independent activities such as the student group "Smile: Children's Japanese Language Support," which provides volunteer Japanese language support at elementary schools and online Japanese language support for children with foreign roots.

Reitaku University will continue to aim to cultivate ready-to-work Japanese language educators who can play an active role in the field as global talent through Japanese language education activities offered by the Department of International Studies, including the Japanese Language Teacher Training and Practical Training Course which will begin in 2025.
