Konan Women's University (Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture) announced plans to establish a "School of Sociology, Department of General Sociology (tentative name)" in April 2026. The university aims to cultivate talent that can acquire knowledge in three areas that are mutually related to modern society, understand modern society comprehensively, and work with others to proactively solve problems. In the same April 4, the university also announced plans to change the name of the "School of Human Sciences, Department of General Child Studies" to "School of Education, Department of Child Education (tentative name)."
The "School of Sociology, Department of General Sociology (tentative name)" has an enrollment capacity of 200 students. Three majors are planned to be established. The "Media Sociology Major (tentative name)" will interpret modern society using media and culture as a gateway, the "Business Society Major (tentative name)" will teach business skills to create new social value, and the "Life Environment Studies Major (tentative name)" will teach practical themes related to daily life and acquire skills to live in society. The three majors will provide comprehensive learning across fields, and will place emphasis on practical learning in collaboration with local communities and companies.
The "Faculty of Education, Department of Child Education (tentative name)" has an enrollment capacity of 110 students. It will inherit the philosophy of the Department of Comprehensive Child Education in the Faculty of Human Sciences and the image of childcare workers and educators it cultivates. It offers a curriculum that allows students to acquire three qualifications and licenses: a childcare worker qualification, a kindergarten teacher license, and an elementary school teacher license, and it is possible to acquire additional licenses by utilizing correspondence courses in collaboration with other universities. In addition to learning to acquire qualifications and licenses, the school will also offer programs to help students acquire expertise as childcare workers and educators. Please note that the content currently being proposed is tentative and may be subject to change.
Konan Women's University will establish a new Faculty of Psychology, Department of Psychology (enrollment capacity 2025 students) in April 4, marking the second consecutive year of new establishments and reorganizations. The Faculty of Psychology offers three programs: Licensed Psychologist, Career Management, and Life Design, and students can take multiple programs based on their interests and concerns. There is no limit to the number of students in each program, including the Licensed Psychologist program.
