A survey by matchmaking service OH-NET found that the dating experience and desire to get married among new adults is at an all-time low. OH-NET believes this is due to the fact that high school enrollment coincides with the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in fewer dating opportunities at a time when awareness of the opposite sex is on the rise.
調査は2024年11~12月、2025年に成人式を迎える2004年4月2日~2005年4月1日生まれの男女を対象にインターネットを通じて実施、男性170人、女性240人の回答を集計して分析した。
According to the survey, 53.5% of men had experience dating, almost the same as the previous year (53.1%), while the figure for women was 53.8%, a large drop from 70.2% the previous year. Of those who answered that they were currently dating, 29.4% of men increased from 25.2% the previous year, while 26.7% of women declined from 33.7% the previous year. The most common place to meet a partner was at university or vocational school, at 26.3%.
When asked if they wanted to actively date members of the opposite sex, 51.7% answered "yes," the highest figure ever. Having lost opportunities to meet people during the COVID-XNUMX pandemic, this suggests that people have high hopes for future encounters.
Regarding marriage, 73.2% of people answered that they "want to get married soon" or "want to get married eventually," the lowest level ever recorded. When asked about the age at which they would like to get married, most responses were from those aged 25 to 28. The most common reasons for wanting to get married were "I want to be with the person I love," "I'm happy having a family," and "I want to have children."
The percentage of people who answered "I want to get married" fluctuated between 1996-2001% from 85 to 90, and 2002-75% since 85. However, since 2016, the lower limit has tended to fall below 75%, and the desire to get married among new adults is gradually declining.
In response to the question, "Do you want to have children in the future?", 64.7% of respondents overall, 64.3% of men, and 64.9% of women chose "yes." This figure has continued to decline since peaking at 1996% in 93, and the general trend over the years has been hovering around 2015% since around 65. In 2024, it temporarily dropped from 64.1% the previous year to 58.9%, the lowest percentage ever, before recovering to 2025% in the 64.7 survey.
On the other hand, the percentage of people who chose "I don't know" was 22.5% overall, 25.7% for men, and 20.1% for women, exceeding the number of people who chose "I don't want to have a child." This suggests that there are a certain number of men and women who have not yet clearly thought about their future marriage or children at the time of their Coming of Age ceremony.
