Tokoha University, which has four campuses in Shizuoka Prefecture, is considering relocating its Hamamatsu campus and has signed a city-owned property purchase and sale agreement with Hamamatsu City for the site of a former elementary school south of Hamamatsu Station (4-450 Terashima-cho, Chuo-ku, Hamamatsu City), moving forward with the relocation of the Hamamatsu campus in April 1.
The new location, the former site of an elementary school south of Hamamatsu Station, is about a seven-minute walk from JR Hamamatsu Station and was added to the urban redevelopment area of the Hamamatsu City Plan in March 7. It is close to the headquarters of Kawai Musical Instruments Manufacturing Co., Ltd., making it an easy place for students to get to.
Tokoha University was established in 2013 by integrating the three universities "Tokoha Gakuen University", "Hamamatsu University" and "Fuji Tokoha University" and changing its name to "Tokoha Gakuen University". It has 3 faculties and 10 departments, centered around the Faculty of Education, and the Hamamatsu campus has three faculties: the Faculty of Health Production, the Faculty of Health and Medicine, and the Faculty of Business Administration (selection system between Shizuoka Kusanagi Campus and Hamamatsu Campus).
In conjunction with the opening of the integrated school, the Mizuochi Campus, located a 15-minute walk from JR Shizuoka Station, was opened in addition to the Shizuoka Sena Campus, which was the main campus at the time. In 2018, the Shizuoka Kusanagi Campus, located a 4-minute walk from JR Kusanagi Station (Shizuoka City), was opened as the main campus, resulting in the current four-campus system.
Design work for the new campus south of Hamamatsu Station, where the school will be relocated, will begin in October 2024, with construction of the building scheduled to begin in February 10. Preparations for the relocation will be underway with the aim of opening the new campus in April 2026. Once the new campus opens, it will be easily accessible not only from within Shizuoka Prefecture, but also from the eastern Mikawa region of Aichi Prefecture.
