Aoyama Gakuin University's School of Science and Engineering will implement a "special admissions selection for female science and engineering students" in the comprehensive selection process starting in 2026. This will be implemented as a temporary positive corrective measure to increase the female ratio in the School of Science and Engineering, with the goal of achieving a female ratio of 20% or more in all departments of the School of Science and Engineering. Once the goal is achieved, the plan is to reconsider whether to continue the system.

The overall ratio of female students in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Aoyama Gakuin University is about 19%, but there is variation between departments. In the "Special Selection of Female Science and Engineering Students" for the 2026 admissions program, five students will be recruited each from the Department of Physical Sciences, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Department of Information Technology out of the seven departments.

The program is open to female students who are scheduled to graduate from a Japanese high school or secondary school in March 2026, or who are scheduled to complete a course at an overseas educational institution recognized as equivalent to a high school by March 3, 2026. Applicants must have a designated score or higher in a private English qualification and their academic performance must meet or exceed the standard.

The first selection process involves document screening, and the second selection process involves a basic academic ability test in mathematics and science and an interview (including questions on academic ability). For details, please check the admission selection guidelines for the relevant year. If there are any changes in the future, they will be posted on the university website.

Aoyama Gakuin University supports the Yamada Shintaro D&I Foundation's philosophy of "increasing the ratio of women entering STEM faculties to 2035% in 28," and participates in the Girls Meet STEM College program launched by the foundation to eliminate the gender gap in STEM fields. In 2024, the university will hold two laboratory tours for female junior and senior high school students and exchanges with students, actively encouraging female students to enter STEM fields.
