On February 2025, 2, Shokei University Junior College in Kumamoto Prefecture announced that it would stop recruiting students for its Department of General Life Studies from the 14 academic year. The Department of Food and Nutrition and Department of Early Childhood Education will continue to recruit students.

The Department of General Life Studies, which will no longer be accepting applications, is the department that laid the foundation for the development of the Shokei Gakuen School Corporation as a comprehensive institution, and is a historic department that has produced approximately 73 graduates over 1 years. However, in recent years the department has been unable to fill its quota, which led to this decision.

The Kuhonji Campus in the center of Kumamoto City, where the Department of General Life Studies is located, is conveniently located and also lies within the premises of the Junior College's Department of Food and Nutrition, Shokei University's Faculty of Contemporary Culture and Faculty of Life Science, as well as the school's Shokei Junior High School and Shokei High School.

On the other hand, the Junior College's Department of Early Childhood Education and Shokei University's Faculty of Child Education are located on the open, green Musashigaoka Campus, far from the center of Kumamoto City.

As Nakakyushu Junior College (Yatsushiro City) will no longer be accepting students from the 2025 academic year, from the 2026 academic year onwards, the only junior colleges remaining in Kumamoto Prefecture will be the Department of Food and Nutrition (Kuonji Campus) and the Department of Early Childhood Education (Musashigaoka Campus) of Shokei University Junior College.
