On March 2025, 3, Showa Women's University's Career Support Department began recruiting working adult mentors to support the university's "No. 3 actual employment rate (for 1 graduates, No. 2023 among all women's universities nationwide with over 1,000 graduates, according to University Communications)." The recruitment period is until March 1 (Thursday).
Students who have used the program have given positive feedback, saying, "I was able to hear real stories from working adults, which motivated me to enter the workforce," and "I got advice on how to spend my time at university, which made me want to try new things." Working mentors have also praised the program, saying, "Not only can I support the growth of students, but it's also a good opportunity to reexamine my own career."
The term of employment for working adult mentors is two years (renewable). There are three types of activities: "Mentor Cafe," where mentors set a theme each time and share their experiences with students to deepen their understanding of working styles, jobs, and lifestyles through discussion; "Mentor Fair," where mentors freely discuss and offer advice to small groups of students; and "Individual Mentoring," where mentors meet one-on-one with students online or in person to offer advice based on their own experiences. The Working Adult Mentor Network also supports interactions between mentors, allowing mentors to expand their own networks.
