Naruto University of Education (Naruto, Tokushima Prefecture) has developed a smartphone app called "Cell Design" that uses AI (artificial intelligence) to visualize students' learning. The app aggregates each student's grades and has a function that uses AI to provide feedback from the accumulated data. The app will be fully operational from April.
According to Naruto University of Education, the app automatically records each student's grades, and students themselves write down their daily observations, which the AI uses to provide feedback from past data. Not only can students check their learning status at any time, but they can also notice changes in themselves and encourage independent learning.
In line with this, Naruto University of Education has introduced a compulsory first-year course in the Faculty of Education called "Self-Designing Learning" to enable students to acquire self-designed learning, with both the app and university faculty accompanying students in their learning.
Naruto University of Education is a national university with only a School of Education. It aims to train teachers who learn independently and practice creatively, and the Teacher Training Digital Transformation Promotion Organization, established in 2022, has been leading the development of a smartphone app that supports self-design of learning.
