Fukuoka Women's University (Higashi-ku, Fukuoka City) is planning to open a Department of Environmental Science (tentative name) and a Department of Life and Information Engineering (tentative name) in the Faculty of International Liberal Arts and Sciences in 2027. The university has been selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's University and College of Technology Strengthening Support Project, and the plan calls for training people who will be involved in international environmental issues and people who will tackle local social issues.

According to Fukuoka Women's University, the Faculty of International Liberal Arts currently has three departments: the Department of International Liberal Arts, the Department of Food and Health, and the Department of Environmental Science. However, there are plans to reorganize the Department of Environmental Science to include the Department of Environmental Science and the Department of Life Information Engineering.

The Department of Environmental Science approaches the subject from both the chemical and biological perspectives to nurture talent who can contribute to the creation of a sustainable society in harmony with the environment, including environmental conservation and decarbonization. The Department of Life and Information Engineering studies artificial intelligence, data science, lifestyle design, urban and transportation planning, etc. from the perspectives of information engineering, life engineering, and social engineering, to nurture talent who can solve local social issues.

Both schools focus on integrated liberal arts and science education, internships, and problem-solving learning, and aim to cultivate human resources who can immediately contribute to society by collaborating with local governments and companies around the country.

Fukuoka Women's University originated as Fukuoka Prefectural Women's College, Japan's first public women's vocational school, in 1923. Currently, there are only two public women's universities: Gunma Prefectural Women's University (Tamamura-cho, Sawa-gun, Gunma Prefecture) and Fukuoka Women's University. In 2, it became Fukuoka Prefectural Fukuoka Women's University, and in 1950, it transitioned to a single faculty, the Faculty of International Literature and Sciences.

The percentage of international students at the university is approximately 14% (2019 academic year), and in order to realize the original educational principle of "living and learning together," Japanese students live in a dormitory for one year in their first year, while international students live in a dormitory for four years. In principle, one international student lives in a four-person room, and international students account for approximately 1% of the students staying in the dormitory.

The university supports students studying abroad through its funds, and has signed academic and student exchange agreements with 32 universities and faculties overseas. Approximately 90% of students study abroad or have international experiences on campus (English Village camps, international summer programs, JD-Mates supporter programs, etc.) before graduating, and approximately 60% have studied abroad before graduating.

In addition, the university is promoting international collaboration by implementing short-term exchange programs and leading the ASEAN-EU Fukuoka University Consortium, facilitating educational and research collaboration between leading universities in ASEAN and Europe.

The spring campus tour and consultation session (on campus) will be held on Saturday, March 2025, 3, and reservations are now open. Current students will be conducting campus tours, dormitory tours, and individual consultations. Advance reservations are required.
