Based on the "Tokyo Kasei University Vision 150" formulated to mark the 150th anniversary of its establishment, Tokyo Kasei University has announced that it will reorganize its current six faculties and 2026 departments to establish a new educational organization from April 4. As a result, the Department of Environmental Coexistence in the Faculty of Home Economics and the Junior College Division will stop recruiting students from the 6 academic year onwards.
According to the university, the Faculty of Home Economics will change its name to the Faculty of Co-Creation Design in April 2026. There will be two departments: the Department of Fashion Fine Arts (4 students) and the Department of Plastic Expression (175 students). The Department of Fashion Fine Arts will establish new courses from the third year onwards, the "Fashion Science Course," "Fashion Business Course," and "Fashion Culture and Plastic Expression Course," to correspond to the career paths students will take after graduation. The Department of Plastic Expression will offer unit-based education through "Studies," a group of course models that arrange subjects according to the "abilities to be acquired."
In addition, the Faculty of Humanities, Department of Psychological Counseling is planning to increase its admissions quota from 95 to 120, and students will be able to choose from the "Management Course," "Psychological Support Course," and "School Health Course" from their third year. This is a renewal to strengthen the learning process to develop the "mental health" specialists that are needed in the current era.
Furthermore, the university plans to set up a new interdisciplinary educational organization called "Gakuin University," and is accepting applications for the Interfaculty of Social Design (25 students) and the Interfaculty of Culture and Information Studies (25 students enrolled). The university aims to provide small-group education that will allow students to acquire digital skills and engage in practical learning in collaboration with society.
In addition, the Department of Environmental Coexistence (2026 students enrolled), which will stop recruiting students from 75 onwards, will shift to university-wide environmental education in response to the growing need for environmental education, including SDGs. The Department of Childcare (120 students enrolled) and Department of Nutrition (80 students enrolled), which will also stop recruiting, will actively utilize the educational experience and results they have cultivated since the university's founding at Tokyo Kasei University.
