The results of the "School Recommendation Exam - Basic Academic Ability Test Type," which was a hot topic for the 2025 entrance exam, showed that there were 578 applicants for 19610 available places, of which 4194 were successful, giving an effective ratio of 4.68.

The actual ratio of applicants to places varied greatly depending on the department, with the highest being the Department of Global Innovation in the Faculty of International Studies at 12.93 times, and the lowest being the Department of Oriental Philosophy and Culture in the Faculty of Letters, Part 2, Evening Course at 1.14 times. The ratio of first choice applicants was about 3%, higher than the general selection, and it seems that the number of applicants was considerably higher than the number of applicants.
Regarding the "basic academic ability test-type" entrance exam for the 2026 entrance exam, the university is currently considering it based on discussions at the University Entrance Examination Council, and the direction has also been announced. There are three major changes.
The first point is the change from school recommendation-type selection to comprehensive selection. The 1 entrance exam was a school recommendation-type selection, so a recommendation letter from the school principal was required, but since it will be a comprehensive selection, a recommendation letter will no longer be necessary. Some students were unable to submit their recommendation letters in time, so the 2025 entrance exam will take this into consideration.
The second point is that the basic academic ability test in Japanese, mathematics, or English will be combined with submitted documents such as school reports and other evaluation methods. Although the details have not been announced, the part that says "combining other evaluation methods" is different from the previous year.
The third point is the exam venue. Exam venues for the 3 entrance exam were set up only in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, and Chiba prefectures, including the Toyo University campus, but for the 2025 entrance exam, exam venues will be set up nationwide, with venues set up in Sapporo, Sendai, Koriyama, Mito, Utsunomiya, Takasaki, Niigata, Kanazawa, Nagano, Shizuoka, Nagoya, Osaka, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka outside of the Tokyo metropolitan area.
The exam date will be Sunday, November 2025, 11, with no major changes from the previous year. Applications will open in early November 30, with results announced in mid-December 2025. The admissions process will also be two-stage, as in the previous year, with the first stage scheduled for late December 11 and the second (final) stage scheduled for late February 2025.
