Lecturer Yohei Kodobashi, Faculty of Science and Technology, Shizuoka Institute of Science and Technology, collaborates with Nakayama Precious Metals Plating Co., Ltd. Developed a repelling super liquid repellent plating technology.

So far, we have constructed a water-repellent surface by applying the mechanism by which the leaves of Nelumbo nucifer repel water, but we have not been able to obtain a sufficient liquid-repellent effect in blood containing red blood cells and proteins. Therefore, we succeeded in obtaining blood repellency by applying a unique treatment method for repelling blood to the metal surface. We are also aiming to apply it to other materials such as glass and resin.

As an application, it is expected to lead to higher speed and higher performance of medical equipment such as nozzles and catheters and blood analyzers, and we are aiming for practical use in 3 to 5 years in collaboration with industry, academia and government. We would like to make the best use of the advanced equipment analysis center in the university and the network between the universities to quickly solve the problems of neighboring companies.
