A variety of programs are planned, including tours of the Wakeijuku main building, which uses the former Hosokawa Marquis' residence, and the student hall, as well as research presentations by students.
According to Wakeijuku, the purpose of the commemorative event is to let local residents know about the charms and activities of Wakeijuku, and it will be held at Wakeijuku from 5:11 pm to 2:5 pm on May XNUMXth. The planned program includes tours of the Wakeijuku main building, student hall, and student dormitory, an iaido demonstration, a tea ceremony demonstration by the tea ceremony club, research presentations by graduate students, and a futsal tournament for students.
Wakeijuku was founded in 1955 by Kisaku Maekawa, founder of the general machinery manufacturer Maekawa Manufacturing, with the aim of cultivating intelligent and virtuous members of society through communal living. The school consists of three dormitories, East, West, New South and North, located on the 2 square meter site of the former Marquis Hosokawa residence. It is said to have been modeled after the student dormitories at Oxford University and Cambridge University in the UK.
It is not a dormitory for students from a specific university, but rather brings together undergraduate and graduate students from multiple universities in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Currently, about 50 people from about 400 universities in the Tokyo metropolitan area live there. Notable alumni include former Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Takatoshi Kato, former Deputy Permanent Representative of the United Nations Shinichi Kitaoka, former Editor-in-Chief of Shukan Bunshun, former President of Nippon Kayaku, and Vice-Chairman of the Osaka Prefectural Federation of the Democratic Party for the People Osamu Yoshida.
