Gakushi, a scholarship platform operator, has been working with Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation on a grant-type scholarship fund called "Sustainable Scholarships," which has raised more than the target amount of 10 billion yen, and began operating the fund in April. The investment profits will be used to fund the grant-type scholarships.
According to Gaxi, the Sustainable Scholarship is a system in which Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation manages the funds collected from donors and allocates the investment profits to grant-type scholarships. Since the principal is not withdrawn, it is possible to generate stable funds for grant-type scholarships over the long term.
The initial fundraising target was 10 billion yen, but the project is on track to reach that goal, with six companies from the Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group - Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation, Mitsubishi UFJ Securities Holdings, Mitsubishi UFJ NICOS, Mitsubishi UFJ Asset Management, and Acom - donating a total of 6 million yen by the end of this fiscal year.
Mitsubishi UFJ Trust Bank will manage the program, while Gakushi will promote it to many young people through its scholarship information website, Gakushi. Applications can be made from smartphones or computers. Selection and payment will be efficiently carried out through the scholarship management system, Gakushi Agent.
