In April 2020, Yokohama City University notified the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology that it would establish a graduate school of data science. Not only teaching methods in classroom lectures, but also developing independent human resources by comprehensively and comprehensively educating the processes necessary for data science.
According to Yokohama City University, the aim of the establishment is to connect the data science faculty, which was first opened in the Tokyo metropolitan area in April 2018, to the graduate school, and to develop advanced data-related human resources required by society. The majors are the first half of the doctoral program in data science (capacity 4), the second half of the doctoral program (20 students), and the first half of the doctoral program in health data science (3 students).
In particular, as a comprehensive university with a medical school, we are focusing on developing human resources who can make policy decisions based on data in fields such as medical care and long-term care in collaboration with the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and the Graduate School of Medicine. For this reason, the Department of Health Data Science will utilize data science to solve problems in the health field.
The curriculum creates the same situation as the site where data is generated, and allows students to experience and learn the process from problem discovery to data collection, processing, analysis, and solution proposal. We will focus on data processing and analysis, aiming to develop independent human resources who are difficult to grow in classroom lectures.
Furthermore, in addition to providing practical educational programs in collaboration with governments and companies, we will focus on problem-solving programs that integrate literacy.
