Waseda University Library and Keio University Media Center (Library) started joint operation of Japan's first library system on September 2019, 9.

 The library joint operation system adopted by both universities this time is the cloud-type library system Alma * and search interface Primo VE * of Ex Libris, which has its headquarters in Israel.It has been used in prestigious overseas university libraries such as Cambridge University and Harvard University, and will be the first to be introduced in Japan.

 The main merits of jointly operating a library are "enhancement of user services and materials through joint operation", "stabilization and cost reduction of operation by joint operation of system", "standardization of catalog format, cost reduction of cataloging", "Sharing knowledge and experience between the two universities and promoting human exchange" can be mentioned.

 As a specific initiative, we have newly launched the "Soukei Catalog Unit", an organization that realizes the efficient creation of catalog information, and share the catalog information in the international standard format on the library system.As a result, researchers and students belonging to both universities can now search for a total of 1,070 million books from Waseda University and Keio University at the same time.In addition, with the new search interface, contract electronic materials can also be searched across the collection of paper media, and the articles and articles contained in these materials are provided free of charge on the Web. It has become possible to discover academic information from around the world at the same time.

 The joint operation not only greatly improves the convenience of library users at both universities, but also makes it possible for the library to centrally manage contracts and access to electronic materials such as journals, making it more stable. It is possible to create an environment where academic information that complies with international standards can be provided.
