Japan's first research consortium specializing in research on child poverty was established with the participation of Osaka Prefecture University and Tokyo Metropolitan University.The Consortium for Child Poverty Research will establish a joint research system for child poverty and support policy making by the national and local governments.

 According to Osaka Prefecture University, the consortium will be attended by the Osaka Prefecture University 21st Century Science Research Center School Social Work Evaluation Support Institute, the Tokyo Graduate School of Humanities and Humanities Research Center, and the Hokkaido University Graduate School of Education. Graduate School of Child Development Clinical Research Center, Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Regional Research Institute, Okinawa University, Japan Welfare University.The secretariat will be located at Tokyo Metropolitan University.

 Following the law promulgated in 2013 on the promotion of measures against child poverty, 16 prefectures have been conducting surveys on the actual conditions of children's lives.The national government plans to enter into a national survey in 2020, but the situation in Japan as a whole regarding child poverty has not been clarified.

 The consortium will establish a research center on child poverty, elucidate how child poverty affects different regions, and promote policy evaluations on what measures are effective for each local government. Make recommendations to local governments.In addition, we will consider measures for the situation of single-parent families and children with foreign roots, which are difficult to clarify by a single survey by local governments.
