2019年11月8日、世界110か国以上で海外留学、語学教育などの国際教育事業を展開するイー・エフ・エデュケーション・ファースト（EF）は、2019年11月8日、世界100か国および地域、230万人の英語テストビッグデータを活用した、英語能力のベンチマーク「EF EPI英語能力指数2019年版」を公開した。日本の英語能力レベルは”低い”に属し、100か国中53位だった。
The EF EPI English Proficiency Index is a chronological study of English proficiency in non-English speaking countries and regions, based on previous year's data from the free online English proficiency test EF SET published and provided by EF. The number of countries ranked as "very high" English proficiency, which is the highest in the five levels of proficiency, has risen to a record high of 5 countries, indicating that the global English proficiency continues to rise.On the other hand, Japan's English proficiency level belongs to the "low" level, and the English proficiency index fell 14 points from 2018 to 0.29 (51.51 results 2018), ranking 51.80rd out of 100 countries (53 2018th). ..
