Otemon Gakuin University and the Prefectural Safety Measures Division of the Osaka Prefectural Police Headquarters jointly developed content that allows users to experience crime damage in a simulated manner using VR (Virtual Reality), mainly for the purpose of raising women's awareness of voluntary crime prevention. A crime prevention class was held for the general public at the joint school festival on November 2019, 11.

The development of crime prevention VR content was led by Professor Akira Harada, Vice President of Otemon Gakuin University, who specializes in data science.Professor Harada took a picture of the scenery of the park with a dedicated camera that can shoot a 360-degree field of view at once, and created a virtual reality (VR) that makes you feel as if you were in the park when you put on special goggles.Wearing these goggles and walking in the park while listening to music on your smartphone, a suspicious person approaches you from behind.Participants can experience how difficult it is to notice these situations.

The method used in this development can basically be manufactured with a dedicated camera and goggles, and the cost is lower than programming a similar virtual space from scratch.Professor Harada says, "If you use this method, not only is it cheap, but you can also create various situations where there is a possibility of crime, and you can contribute to educational activities such as crime prevention classes."

About 11 men and women from junior high school students to the elderly participated in the crime prevention class held at the joint school festival with Otemon Gakuin Junior and Senior High School on November 2. After experiencing with VR goggles, I heard a police officer explain the danger points. From the junior high school girls who participated, "I was able to strongly feel the danger of walking smartphones because the images were real" "I found that even if people were following from behind on walking smartphones, I could not notice at all", etc. Seems to have helped raise awareness of crime prevention.
