Since 2007, the National Federation of University Co-ops has been conducting the "New Student Survey for Parents" targeting new students from April to May every year, and announced the results of the survey in FY4.

According to the 2019 survey, the "cost from entrance examination to admission" varies greatly depending on the course of the university, such as the establishment of the university, major, and residence, and the average amount is 1,259,800 yen for national, public, home, and science and engineering. The lowest was 2,884,500 yen for private / boarding / medical / dental medicine.By cost item, "costs required to apply" continued to increase in 2018.In particular, national and public institutions have the highest amount since 127,000, which can be compared with the same standard of 2008 yen.
In addition, as a problem when preparing for expenses, "the examination fee has increased" was 25.3% for general examinations, which was the highest since 2014 when this question was started. With the university entrance examination system that will change from 2020 in mind, it seems that the increase in the tendency toward active entrance examinations is reflected in the increase in the number of faculties and examination costs.

Regarding "parental awareness," among the expectations for universities, "strengthening support for employment" decreased by 2013 points from 63.0% in 12.1, which was the first survey, and especially in the liberal arts, it decreased by 14.3 points. At the same time, the number of parents who cited "employment and future" (33.8%) as anxiety about their children's university life decreased by 2013 points from 7.7 (decreased by 9.1 points for liberal arts and 7.3 points for science and engineering). Against the backdrop of favorable employment conditions, parents' anxieties related to "employment" also tended to diminish. In addition, as a behavior until the entrance of parents, the tendency to accompany children continues from the open campus to the entrance examination.

This survey investigates parents' evaluations of the efforts of the university co-operatives in the new semester, the cost for new students to enter the school, specific schedules, and awareness when searching for a place to live or purchasing products, and summarizes the new semester business. And it is done for the purpose of using it as the basic data for the next year's proposal. In 2019, responses were obtained from the parents of 123 new students (undergraduate students) of 21,531 university co-ops nationwide.
