In 2020, Otemon Gakuin University will celebrate its 50th anniversary of studying abroad with Gujarat University in India.Prior to that milestone, a ceremony to commemorate the 2019th anniversary of the exchange was held on December 12, 11.
At the commemorative ceremony, the mayor of Ahmedabad in Gujarat, the western part of India, where Gujarat University is located, the president of Gujarat University, and consulates from the Indian Consulate in Osaka and Kobe attended as guests. In addition, graduates from Japan and India who have participated in exchange programs so far also visited.
The exchange between Otemon Gakuin University and Gujarat University began in 1970 through study abroad by both students. At that time, there were few universities in the country that had exchanges with Indian universities, and in 1969, as a proof of friendship from the Indian government, while talking about exchange study, "Gandhi" tells the way of life of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of India's independence. A souvenir called "Kit" was presented.
Among the Indian students who have studied at our university as exchange students, human resources who are active in the world, including former Indian ambassador to Japan Sujan Chinhoyi, have been produced, and the Gujarat India-Japan Friendship Association has also been established locally. It has become the cornerstone of Japan-India exchange.
