Kwansei Gakuin University has signed an agreement with Japan Heart, an international medical volunteer organization that operates mainly in developing countries.Based on this agreement, as an initiative of international volunteers, students will be dispatched to the Children's Medical Center established by Japan Heart in the suburbs of Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

In Cambodia, there are currently few hospitals that can complete pediatric solid tumor treatment free of charge, and there are many cases where it is too late to see a hospital due to lack of knowledge of medical staff and family members. In order to improve this situation, students dispatched from Kansai Gakuin University will carry out educational activities such as "Childhood cancer can be overcome by treatment" and public relations work to raise awareness of the Children's Medical Center in Cambodia. He will be in charge and is expected to play an important role in connecting Cambodian children with medical care. The first dispatch is scheduled for five months from September 2020 to February 9.

The dispatched students will play the role of being entrusted to the field for about half a year, and will be children as world citizens who embody the school motto of Kwansei Gakuin University, "Mastery for Service". Learn the implications and importance of serving ourselves and local people and contributing to the international community.

Regarding the dispatch of students to Cambodia, President Osamu Murata said, "Kwansei Gakuin was founded by the missionary WR Rambus. Rambus was involved not only in missionary activities but also in medical activities. I hope that the students dispatched based on the conclusion of the agreement will take over Rambus's thoughts and make an international contribution in activities that connect children and medical care in Cambodia. "

Japan Heart was established in 2004 by Hideto Yoshioka, a pediatric surgeon, as an "international medical NGO originating in Japan" with the aim of further improving the quality of medical support activities based on many years of overseas medical experience.Headquartered in Tokyo, it operates medical facilities in Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos. The activities of the group are supported by many medical professionals and volunteers from Japan, and a total of more than 4,500 volunteers have participated, and so far 20 treatments have been performed in developing countries. These activities are carried out based on the philosophy of "delivering medical care to places where medical care does not reach."
