On May 2020, 5, Jun Nakahara Laboratory, Faculty of Business Administration, Rikkyo University, published a research report on the challenges and possibilities of online interviews in corporate recruitment activities.

The "Survey on the actual situation of online interviews" * shows how online interviews, which are rapidly spreading in corporate recruiting activities due to the spread of the new coronavirus infectious disease, are practiced and have potential and challenges. Quantitative investigation of whether or not.

The survey was conducted by Reita Shibai and Tomofumi Sato, who belong to the Nakahara Laboratory in the 4th year of the Faculty of Business Administration.Mr. Shibai and Mr. Sato, who are looking for a job, are worried about the actual online interview, but on the other hand, the hiring manager of the company is not trying and erroring this rapid change. Imagine. We investigated the actual situation from the perspectives of both students and recruiters.

According to the survey, as of May 2020, 5, 3% of companies have already moved online for the first interview and 1% for the second interview.95.6% of the final interviews to decide the offer were also conducted online. When asked about the response of the hiring manager who conducted the interview, 2% of the respondents answered that they were able to give the students the image of working at their own company, while 71.3 for the online interview.・ There was a difference of 58.1 points, 78.8%.On the other hand, students also answered that they had the image of working at the company, but online interviews were 55%, which was 1 points lower than face-to-face interviews (23.7%).

As for the interview time, the most common answer was "30 to 45 minutes" for online interviews and "45 to 60 minutes" for face-to-face interviews, and the short online interview time is conspicuous. The online interview has become simpler, students can no longer experience the corporate culture, and it has become difficult for companies to convey the image of the company. It can be said that the negative aspect of online interviews is that it is difficult to convey the "working image" and "state of employees".

The research report suggests that online interviews alone have limitations, and that in the future it will be necessary to change to a “blended” recruitment format for face-to-face and online interviews.Recruiters need a hiring plan that takes advantage of online and face-to-face characteristics, and students pointed out the need to behave after understanding the characteristics and purposes of each interview method.
