Warm colors are trumpets, achromatic colors are pianos-When a research team including Shota Matsuyama, a 4th year student at Shibaura Institute of Technology, investigated "sounds associated with colors", foreigners and Japanese from five countries However, it turned out to have a common image.

The research was conducted by Mr. Matsuyama, reggae singer and app developer DOZAN11 (formerly Miki Dozo), visionaryist Manabu Miki, Diva Aoyagi Shinichi, and Associate Professor Kyoko Hidaka of Shibaura Institute of Technology. Professor. We conducted this survey to improve the application "mupic" that automatically generates music from the loaded images. The survey results and analysis were presented at the 51st National Conference of the Color Society of Japan, Color Pod [Kyoto] '20.

People associate colors and sounds based on their memories. We compared 79 Japanese speakers and 45 English speakers to see if different living environments and languages were associated with different things. The nationalities of the target people are the United States, Taiwan, Brazil, the Netherlands, India and Japan, for a total of six countries.

We created two types of online questionnaires in Japanese and English, and asked them to fill in the sounds and musical instruments associated with 12 colors. Warm colors are high-pitched musical instruments such as trumpets, and achromatic colors are associated with piano in both Japanese and English. We collected votes from, and there was no difference between languages. Also, cool colors did not have a particular instrument that was prominently associated with either.

The results of this survey will be reflected in the selection of "mupic" instruments, colors, and rhythms. In addition, it can be expected to be applied to manufacturing that makes use of the correlation between color and sound, such as educational toys, general applications that allocate sound to color, and devices that change color to sound.
