The University of Tokyo and Kyoto University are in the top 2021 in the 100 World University Rankings compiled by the British higher education magazine Times Higher Education (THE).The University of Tokyo is ranked 36th, the same as the previous year, and Kyoto University is ranked 11th, up 54 ranks from the previous year.

 According to THE, the world university rankings are ranked by calculating scores with 5 indicators in five fields: education, research, cited papers, internationality, and income from industry.Oxford University in the UK has been the top 13 in the world for the fifth consecutive year, followed by Stanford University in 10nd place, Harvard University in 5rd place, California Institute of Technology in 2th place, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 3th place. Cambridge University in the UK is in 4th place, and Americans are in 5th to 6th place, with the University of California, Berkeley, Hyeres University, Princeton University, and the University of Chicago in that order.

 Asian universities have made great strides, with Seika University in China entering the top 20 for the first time and 141 of the 14 universities in India ranking for the first time.There are 100 Asian universities in the top 16, the highest number ever.Of these, 13 schools have increased or maintained their rankings from the previous year.

 181 Japanese universities were ranked after 116 in the United States.Following Tokyo University and Kyoto University are Tohoku University (201-250), Tokyo Institute of Technology (301-350), Nagoya University (351-400), Industrial Medical University, and Osaka University.However, there are only two schools in the top 200, and 2 schools in the United States, 59 schools in the United Kingdom, and 29 schools in Germany have been greatly opened.
