Tohoku University International Research Institute of Disaster Science and DP Co., Ltd. are in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, to experience the past, present, and future of the region using AR (Augmented Reality) technology. AR technology is a general term for technology that superimposes information on the landscape in front of you on a computer.You can display past and future information (additional information) on the spot, such as the scenery before and immediately after the earthquake, which you cannot experience now, in the scenery of the disaster area (actual environment).
At the United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in March 2015, a demonstration experiment "NATORI AR HOPR TOUR" was conducted with the students of Miyagi Prefectural Agricultural High School who came up with the idea of AR tourism in the disaster area.This time, utilizing that experience, we will scale up the content by enhancing scenarios and contents that are effective for disaster prevention education tailored to the region, using earthquake disaster archive data provided by the International Research Institute of Disaster Science, Tohoku University.We will conduct a tour that also serves as a demonstration experiment for the purpose of handing down the memory of the earthquake and raising individual disaster prevention awareness.
In the tour, we actually visited the disaster area and used Sony Corporation's glasses-type terminal SmartEyeglass as "AR glass", AR display of the scenery before and after the earthquake, simulated experience of the height of the tsunami, images from the disaster to the present.
