The faculty members of the University of Toyama formed a scrum to develop a small and inexpensive original ventilator. The prototype has been finished to a level that can be used in the actual medical field, and Toyama University intends to commercialize it in collaboration with a private company and spread it to the medical field for emergencies.

According to the University of Toyama, the ventilator was conceived by Professor Akira Hayashi of the Faculty of Arts and Culture as an emergency, and a program originally developed by Associate Professor Hideki Toda of the Faculty of Engineering was implemented in the prototype. We made three prototypes that can control pressure, cycle, and flow rate, and have an assist function that can respond not only to normal operation but also to changes in patient's cough and spontaneous breathing.

When the prototype was shown to doctors specializing in respiratory organs at Toyama University Hospital, it received a certain high evaluation. In response to this, the operation efficiency was further improved, the prototype was improved more compactly, and as a result of having the director of Toyama University Hospital confirm it, it was evaluated as a level that can be used in the medical field.

This ventilator is small and cheap to manufacture. The University of Toyama aims to commercialize products that can be widely used in the medical field in collaboration with private companies.
