The spread of the new coronavirus infection has had various effects on the consciousness and behavior of consumers around the world. It is considered that there are no exceptions in terms of clothing life such as wearing and washing. Therefore, from June to July 2020, the Department of Clothing, Faculty of Home Economics, Japan Women's University conducted a questionnaire survey on "changes in clothing and lifestyle" in Corona.6 men and women over the age of teens nationwide answered.

According to the survey, in terms of hygiene management, 3 out of 2 (65%) answered that there was a "change". Those in their 70s and above and teens showed a high percentage of over 10%, and other age groups were also over 70%. "No particular change" was the highest in the 50s at 30%.It can be said that all generations are worried about infection through textile products and are raising awareness of infection control.

Regarding changes in behavior, the response rates for "washing (changing clothes) immediately after returning home" and "washing and reusing disposable masks" were high.By age group, the response rate for "washing (changing clothes) immediately after returning home" was the highest at about 10% for teens and 40s, and the lowest at 40% for people in their 70s and above. "Washing and reusing disposable masks" was the highest at 20% for those in their 70s and above, and the lowest was 45% for those in their 30s.

The number of washings increased by 19%, but the responses of "use detergents and fabric softeners with antibacterial and antiviral effects" and "use bleach when washing" were low. The response rate for "sterilizing clothes worn with alcohol spray, etc." is high among teens and 10s, and it seems that the ease with which they can respond immediately after returning home is supported.
"Awareness of drying by exposing to ultraviolet rays" was low for teens to 10s, and the response rate was high as the age increased to about 30% for those in their 70s and above.Since the behavior of exposing laundry to ultraviolet rays and drying it has a limited time zone, it is presumed that the response rate in the age group that can handle it has increased.

From the results of this survey, under the situation of "With Corona", about 7% of people are aware of "wearing a mask" and "a new lifestyle" of changing clothes as soon as possible after going to a crowded place. Thus, it is expected that the new coronavirus infection will give rise to a "new lifestyle", and that part of this lifestyle will remain even after convergence.

Currently, the use of "reusable masks" such as handmade masks is spreading, which also leads to the importance of hygiene management such as washing.Japan Women's University hopes that the results of this survey will be an opportunity to review the washing methods that are used on a daily basis as one of hygiene management.
