The research team led by Professor Emeritus Ryoji Tsuboi and Chief Professor Kazutoshi Harada of the Department of Dermatology, Tokyo Medical University has been effective in clinical research on alopecia and thinning hair so far, so we will start a new clinical study this time. ..This is the first attempt to administer cultured autologous hair cells multiple times to a wide range of thinning hair, aiming for a visible therapeutic effect and safety. The research was jointly conducted by Toho University Medical Center Ohashi Hospital and Shiseido Co., Ltd., but this time, the hospital attached to Kyorin University School of Medicine will participate and conduct the research at three facilities.

Currently, alopecia of men and women, which is the most common type of alopecia, is not a serious disease, but it has a significant effect on appearance. The development of treatment methods was expected in terms of improving QOL (quality of life). In Japan, some drugs are used to treat alopecia of the middle age, but there are problems such as the need for continuous administration and the lack of drugs for women, and the effect was insufficient for both men and women. ..

The previous clinical study was conducted from 2016 to 2019.The safety and efficacy of autologous cultured cells using a hairball root sheath (DSC) cell processed product (S-DSCTM) were examined by injecting them into the thin hair part of the scalp. As a result, the effective cell concentration was determined and the safety was confirmed when the injection was performed only once in a small area of the thinning hair part.

In a new clinical study, multiple doses will be given to a wide range of thinning hair.A small amount of skin tissue (several mm in diameter) was collected from the back of the head of the subject with consent and transported to a cell processing facility (Shiseido Cell Culture Processing Center).Hair follicle DSC tissue is isolated and cultured to obtain SDSCTM, a cell processed product.S-DSCTM is injected into a wide range of hair loss sites on the crown and its surroundings for a total of about 40 male and female subjects. After a certain period of time, it is injected again at the same site. The observation period is 1.5 years (safety 2 years).

This clinical study is expected to realize a new treatment for thinning hair by regenerative medicine.
