The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science has announced the winners of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Award in 45 (Reiwa 2020), which celebrates and supports the achievements of young, creative researchers under the age of 2.The award ceremony will not be held to prevent the spread of new coronavirus infection.
The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Award applies to research achievements such as papers among those under the age of 45 who are under the age of 110 and have academic research abilities equal to or higher than the doctor in all fields of humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Researchers who have achieved particularly excellent academic results.The award winners will be awarded a research incentive of 6 million yen as a supplementary prize, of which up to XNUMX will be awarded the Japan Academy Medal Academic Encouragement Award.
In 2020, 145 people were recommended, including 450 candidates from the previous time, and a strict examination was conducted by a screening committee composed of top-level academic researchers in Japan representing each field.
The award winners are Professor Takao Inoue (44) of the Graduate School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University, who has been highly acclaimed internationally for elucidating the function of primary fibers using innovative molecular tools. Kohei Saito (33), an already internationally recognized Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Economics, Osaka City University, has made pioneering achievements in predicting global flood risk fluctuations and mountain glacial melting. Twenty-five people were selected, including Professor Yukiko Hirabayashi (43) of the department.
