The Faculty of Horticulture, Chiba University will hold an online symposium on February 2021, 2 (Sunday), "The 14 Years of Great East Japan Earthquake Reconstruction Assistance".Volunteer students from the Faculty of Horticulture, Chiba University have been conducting reconstruction support activities in the affected areas immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred in March 10.This symposium marks the 2011th anniversary of the earthquake, and we will look back on our past activities together with the student OBOG and the local people who have worked with us.

 After the earthquake, Associate Professor Akita of the Graduate School of Horticulture and students of the Faculty of Horticulture continued to go to the affected areas and sweated with the local people by picking up debris, weeding, and making flower beds.In addition, we held workshops with the participation of residents and carried out activities that made use of our expertise, such as proposing flower and green reconstruction plans.OBs and OGs who have become national and local public servants and researchers at companies are also participating in the activities, and not only are the warm exchanges between local people and students continuing even after graduation, but also the content of the activities. It is a more specialized activity.

 On the day of the event, the local people who worked with the students talked about the activities carried out in their respective regions and the significance of the academic activities in the reconstruction support, and led the activities as a center in each age group. Students at Chiba University talk about what they felt and learned through their activities, and what they are connected to today.The venue will be on the Chiba University Matsudo Campus or Zoom.Depending on the number of applicants and the spread of new coronavirus infections, Zoom may be the only option.
