The Chiba University Environmental ISO Student Committee held a meeting to distribute compost to residents on June 6th and 11th to contribute to the community.Part of environmental conservation activities to reduce waste and CO12 by composting fallen leaves that were supposed to be incinerated.

On the campus of the university, a large amount of fallen leaves are disposed of as garbage every year. Therefore, the Environmental ISO Student Committee received technical guidance from the local NPO Environmental Net and composted some of the fallen leaves from 2006. Distribution to local residents has started under the name of "Keyaki no Ko". In fiscal 2016, we notified local residents in advance through the circulation board of the neighborhood association, and distributed a total of 6 bags of 11 kg of compost on June 12 and 10. It was well received, such as "used in organically grown fields." We will solicit a donation of 30 yen per bag and utilize it for the environmental activities of the Student Committee.

We temporarily refrained from distributing compost due to the effects of the nuclear accident caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake, but in 2013 and 2014 we measured the radiation dose contained in the humus of fallen leaves.Since it was below the standard set by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the students themselves applied to the ministry through Chiba Prefecture, received permission, and resumed the distribution meeting in 2015.

The Chiba University Environmental ISO Student Committee was established in October 2003 when the university began to acquire ISO10 certification, and currently about 14001 students belong to it.We are engaged in activities such as greening and composting, cooperation with the local community, and educational activities within the university, and as part of this, we are distributing compost of fallen leaves.Yoshitaka Matsumura, the leader of the composting group of the Environmental ISO Student Committee, said, "Although there were many difficult things, I was able to distribute the keyakiko that I made with great care for about a year. I felt that this activity was worthwhile. I would like to continue to do so in the future. "
