Associate Professor Mitsuhiko Ota, Assistant Professor Lee Himehide, Professor Hiroshi Yatani of Fujita Medical University School of Medicine and a research group at the National Cancer Center investigated the physical and mental conditions of workers with and without cancer. It was found that many people complain of subjective unhealth and deterioration of physical function. The research group needs continued support even after overcoming cancer and returning to work.
As a result, there were 977 men and 1,267 women with a history of cancer, but statistics show that the percentage of workers who complain of subjective unhealth or deterioration of physical function is higher than that of workers without a history of cancer. It turned out to be significantly higher. On the other hand, there was no difference in the proportion of people with depressive symptoms.Although there was no difference in the proportion of people with a feeling of well-being among women, the percentage of men with a history of cancer was higher.
Previous studies have shown that cancer treatment reduces a variety of physical functions, and the research group believes that workers with a history of cancer have realized this.It is analyzed that the reason why many men with a history of cancer feel happy is that they are satisfied that they have survived the cancer and returned to work.
